· Think
about the type of bed you would like. Do you want a softer or firmer
feel? What style would you like – divan or a bedstead? The general
rule for choosing your tension of mattress (1 being soft and 5 being
firm) is:-

Over 16 stones |

· What
price do you want to spend? There are some perfectly acceptable lower
priced beds around that will be far more preferable to the one you’ve
been sleeping on for the last 10 years.
-
· Decide
your budget and go for the best mattress you can afford. This is where
comfort and support can be found. Your mattress is the bed, the
base just lifts you off the floor (in most cases anyway). It
is worth remembering people will spend £10,000 on a car they spend 1
hour a day in but think they should spend £300 on a bed they spend 8
hours a day in. We do sell beds under £300 but we also sell
beds over £1000.
-
· Is
storage important – do you want drawers under the bed? These do not
affect the comfort or quality but may cost a little more.
-
· Buy
as big a bed as you can afford and can fit into your bedroom.
Disturbance from a partner is one of the most common sleeping complaints
that is largely eliminated by a bigger bed.
-
Single beds are 3'0" wide and 6'3"
long, double 4'6" x 6'3", king size 5'0" x 6'6" and super king size
6'0" x 6'6" although we can arrange for beds to suit anyone's size
requirement. Incidentally, in the USA king size is called queen and
a super king is king.

· If
the name on the mattress sounds vaguely medical (usually with the word
orthopaedic in the title) it usually means that it is a firm mattress
(the latest medical advice is that firm beds are actually bad for
your back in most cases). If
you suffer from a bad back then seek medical advice. The right mattress
for you will depend on your height, weight and build. A firm tension
mattress for example will not be the best for a lighter person who will
not get the support they need.
-
· Set
aside a little time to choose your bed. A bed that is too soft will mean
your body slouches which may result in bad posture and back pain. Too
hard and you lie on top of it and receive little support for back and
joints. The average person spends over 40,000 hours laying on
there bed over the course of it's lifetime so it is worth spending a
few hours ensuring you get the right one for you.
